Hu-m-an/Ehuman requires videos using a 16 bit Windows 'avi' format.  It is recommended to start with the 'Indeo R3.2' codec (compressor-decompressor), as it readily adapts to image re-sizing.  This codec is available at:

This < Indeo Codec 5.11 > installation package includes the Indeo R3.2, 4.5 and 5.11 codecs.  The R3.2 codec is most flexible in terms of resizing and commonly available on with many operating systems making the files most portable. The 5.11 codec produces the best quality pictures although they cannot be resized using the x2 function.  The 4.5 codec is of excellent quality and can be resized using x2. 

Typically, a video is produced using this codec directly, although existing files can be adapted using a third party video converter.  We have found the Prism Video Converter from NCH Software Pty Ltd. to be very useful in this regard. The basic version available here is free and all that is required.  The Prism Video Converter will access and apply the above installed codecs.

Reflective Tape for Automated Tracking

With care it is possible to have success using automated digitizing with normal 3/4 inch Styrofoam spheres.  Wrapping the spheres in highly reflective tape and using a light source near each camera greatly enhances success.

A commonly used covering is 3M 7610 reflective tape.  The main obstacle is the price and in particular the required minimum purchase.  Each 50 yard x 2 inch roll of 3M 7610 tape is typically priced at about $400.

HMA Technology is pleased to announce that we are offering small quantity purchases of the reflective tape.  Thirty-six inches (4 - 9 inch x 2 inch strips) of tape is priced at CAN $16 (~US $16). This is normally sufficient to wrap 12 3/4 inch Styrofoam spheres.
